Custom Design is Crucial for Bulbous Nose Rhinoplasty!

Hello.
This is Vibe Plastic Surgery.
Among all plastic surgery procedures, regardless of age or gender,
the nose is a highly sought-after area.
However, since revision rhinoplasty has a high level of difficulty
and can lead to discomfort and side effects,
a bulbous nose should be properly corrected during the initial surgery.

Which type of nose is considered a bulbous nose,
and what are the surgical methods? Let's take a closer look
at bulbous nose rhinoplasty.
Types of Bulbous Noses

When the nose appears wide due to a low bridge
The nasal tip needs to project sufficiently,
but if it collapses weakly, it spreads sideways.
This makes the nose look wider and gives a bulbous appearance.

When the skin and soft tissues are thick
This is often referred to as a "strawberry nose."
If you look closely at a strawberry, it has large pores
and looks like it has seeds embedded in it.
If your nose gives off a similar impression,
it can be considered a bulbous nose.

When the cartilage itself is large and spread out
Visually, the nose lacks definition
and spreads laterally, giving a bulbous appearance.

When the alar (nostril wings) are wide on both sides
Because the nose looks low and wide,
it can strongly resemble a bulbous nose.

Bulbous nose rhinoplasty varies
depending on the shape of the nose.
If the nose appears wide because it is low,
elevating the nasal bridge and tip to visually gather it
can be a highly satisfying point of improvement.
If the skin and soft tissues are thick,
there are limits to the correction.
If too much tissue is removed just because the skin is thick,
it can actually look worse,
so avoiding excessive removal
can be more advantageous for the final result.
When the cartilage itself is large and spread out,
the satisfaction rate is relatively high,
and the results are often very good.
Just by gathering the cartilage and removing the wide parts,
the nose can become sharply defined.
Among bulbous nose rhinoplasties, this type improves relatively well
and yields high satisfaction.
Even after undergoing bulbous nose rhinoplasty,
if you still feel that the nose looks wide,
we recommend a procedure called "alar reduction."

Alar reduction surgery
is not typically the first surgery to choose,
but rather a highly conservative procedure
performed on the remaining width
after the nasal tip has been sufficiently elevated.

Among the side effects of bulbous nose rhinoplasty,
there are cases where the nose becomes even larger after surgery.
The skin and the underlying soft tissues
have well-developed blood vessels and are prone to bleeding.
If they are excessively removed to make the area thinner,
new scar tissue will fill in the removed areas.
Additionally, a lot of minor bleeding can occur.
If the surgery is completed without sufficient hemostasis,
the blood in that area can harden,
resulting in a harder and larger nose.
Therefore, for bulbous nose rhinoplasty,
it is important to find a solution tailored to the cause,
so an individualized, custom surgical plan must be made and executed.

If the height is low,
simply increasing the height and gathering the tissue in the process
often creates a visual change and results in high satisfaction.
However, if the bulbous nose is already high
and the nose is too large to be elevated further,
there may be difficulties in performing the surgery.
As such, there are various types of bulbous noses,
and depending on how the surgery is performed and approached,
the results will inevitably differ.

That is why Vibe Plastic Surgery,
to ensure satisfaction in bulbous nose rhinoplasty,
has our board-certified plastic surgeon, Chief Director Dr. Yoo Young-moon,
approach the procedure from various angles—including the nasal bridge, alar, and columella—
to establish and execute a harmonious design plan.
