Top 5 Reasons for Revision Rhinoplasty Revealed!

Hello.

This is Vibe Plastic Surgery.

In the case of rhinoplasty, when performing the initial surgery,

due to hasty and improper planning,

there are many cases where patients experience side effects.

Furthermore, there is even a rumor that you need at least three nose surgeries

to be satisfied, which shows just how common

revision rhinoplasty cases actually are.

Let's find out exactly what reasons

lead to revision rhinoplasty.

The 5th most common reason is capsular contracture.

When an implant is inserted into our body,

because the implant is a foreign substance, our body

triggers an immune response.

Reacting to it as something that does not belong to the body,

inflammatory cells gather around the implant,

which over time can cause pain, and

due to the immune response caused by these inflammatory cells,

a shrinking or tightening reaction occurs.

This phenomenon is called contracture.

Contracture literally means

the symptom of hardening and shrinking.

When inflammation occurs around the implant

and a thick capsule forms, it compresses the silicone,

inducing the contracture phenomenon.

In the early stages after surgery, it can be treated with antibiotics, but

if time passes and the contracture phenomenon sets in,

implant replacement or removal may be necessary.

Considered among the more difficult rhinoplasty procedures,

dorsal hump and bulbous nose surgeries take 4th place.

This is when a patient had a bulbous tip or a dorsal hump

and underwent surgery, but the hump returned after surgery,

or the nasal tip remains bulbous, meaning the correction

was not achieved as much as desired.

In the case of a dorsal hump,

it should be moderately shaved down within a possible range,

and then an implant or autologous cartilage should be used

to fill in the depressed areas to ensure

a high level of satisfaction.

Many patients visit us due to asymmetry or a deviated nose.

Everyone's nose has some degree of

facial asymmetry.

The slope of the nasal bones on both sides is different, the axis is different,

and the height of both nostrils varies slightly.

However, you may not normally notice this asymmetry.

But as the nasal bridge is elevated and reshaped,

the deviated areas or the differences between both sides

can become more noticeable.

It may be difficult to perfectly correct

all these minute differences through surgery, but

if the implant has moved and caused deviation after surgery,

or if the axis is too misaligned,

it can be corrected with revision surgery.

When performing rhinoplasty,

the nasal tip is usually elevated

using autologous cartilage.

If the skin is too thick

or because the skin itself exerts downward pressure,

there are many cases where patients feel the tip has dropped.

Also, although not commonly used recently,

there are cases where surgery was done with an L-shaped implant.

Inserting an L-shaped implant from the bridge to the tip

looks very unnatural, and due to the pressure on the strut,

the nasal tip can actually appear more bulbous.

Considered the most common cause of revision rhinoplasty

are cases of aesthetic dissatisfaction.

After rhinoplasty, compared to the pre-surgery height,

patients may feel there is no significant difference,

or that their nose has changed by becoming too high like an Avatar,

and there are quite a few cases where patients complain about this.

Just as a high nose is not unconditionally a pretty nose,

the line that suits each individual is different.

Rather than simply looking at the nose alone,

overall facial harmony, meaning the degree of protrusion from the forehead to the mouth,

considering all these aspects is

the most important thing.

What is the ideal nose shape that suits you,

and what aspects you want to improve during revision rhinoplasty;

at Vibe Plastic Surgery, through 3D-CT,

we systematically analyze the causes of previous surgical failures,

and we hope you can improve both aesthetic

and functional aspects simultaneously.
