Hello.
This is VIBE Plastic Surgery.
When it comes to canthoplasty, there are various surgical methods,
and it can be difficult to judge on your own
whether your eyes are suitable for the procedure.
At VIBE Plastic Surgery,
in addition to basic double eyelid surgery,
we have created our own unique canthoplasty
to perform eye surgery that highlights
the characteristics of each individual's eyes.

Are you unfamiliar with Mango Canthoplasty?
It is VIBE Plastic Surgery's exclusive canthoplasty.
We created this unique technique
with the idea that a smooth, streamlined shape like a mango
would make the eyes look larger and more refreshing.

There are various types of canthoplasty.
Based on our dark pupils,
there are epicanthoplasty, lateral canthoplasty, upper canthoplasty, and lower canthoplasty.
These are the four main directions.

The direction toward the nose is epicanthoplasty (front),
while the opposite direction toward the ears is lateral canthoplasty (back).
If the goal is to release the upper Mongolian fold
at a 45-degree upward angle from the inner corner,
that is upper canthoplasty.
When the outer corner of the eye is too high, making it look stuffy
and closed off, lower canthoplasty is a surgical method
that opens up the lower direction.

It is determined by the relationship between the eyeball and the lower eyelid.
In cases where the eyes are protruding and bulging,
the eyeball and the lower eyelid are closely attached to each other,
so even if a large amount is opened, they move together while attached,
which is advantageous in terms of scarring.
On the other hand, if the eyeball itself is sunken
and the bone structure is far away and floating,
they float and move together with every movement,
which can expose the red inner flesh
or make scars more visible, sometimes leading to
unfavorable results in this regard.

It depends on the surgical method.
There is a surgical method that directly hooks the ligament
at the outer corner of the eye to the outer periosteum bone,
and there is a method that does not hook it.
Depending on the surgical method, directly
fixing it to the periosteum provides
a better opening effect and a lower probability of reverting.
However, if surgery is performed only on the soft tissue without fixation,
you may feel like it is reattaching.

It is not a matter of right or wrong,
but rather a difference in surgical methods.
Dr. Yoo Young-moon of VIBE Plastic Surgery
prefers the method of directly fixing it to the periosteum.
The reason is that this surgical method ensures a much more definite amount of opening
and has a lower probability of reverting.
However, the non-fixation method also has its advantages.
The postoperative recovery process is much faster,
and there is an advantage of having fewer problems
such as scarring or over-opening.
Also, not fixing it does not necessarily mean
that it will unconditionally revert.

If the condition after surgery is already such that the eyelid is everted,
ectropion has occurred, and the conjunctival area has become dry and epithelialized,
exposing the red part,
that part cannot be improved even if revision surgery is performed.
Therefore, it seems important to achieve satisfactory results
from the beginning so that revision surgery is not necessary.

It is possible through reconstructive surgery.
The excessively opened part can be pulled
and fixed to the desired position.
However, because the scar tissue from the surgery itself
continues to pull, it must be fixed strongly enough
to overcome and withstand that force,
so there are cases where a hole must be made directly in the bone
for sturdy fixation.
Therefore, please keep in mind that while reconstructive surgery is possible,
it is a highly difficult surgery.

When only lateral canthoplasty or lateral-lower canthoplasty is performed,
the lower part inevitably becomes horizontal.
In that case, it becomes somewhat shaped like a pickled radish.
However, because that shape does not look very pretty,
the canthoplasty created after much deliberation is 'Mango Canthoplasty'.

As mentioned above, Mango Canthoplasty
also lowers the bottom through lower canthoplasty,
so the eyes look much larger, and the probability of reattaching is actually reduced.
Since the surgery is performed non-incisionally,
it has the advantage of less burden regarding scars.
If you are considering eye surgery
to improve your image with a softer eye shape,
we recommend VIBE's exclusive Mango Canthoplasty,
which can improve your eyes to be larger and more refreshing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of surgery is Mango Epicanthoplasty?
Yes, it is VIBE Plastic Surgery's unique epicanthoplasty technique. It reshapes the eyes into a smooth, streamlined mango-like shape, making them appear larger and more open. It is characterized by being a non-incisional procedure, which reduces the burden of scars.
Is epicanthoplasty disadvantageous if the eyeballs are sunken?
Yes, it can be disadvantageous. If the eyeballs are sunken and the bone structure is far apart, there is a risk that the red inner flesh or scars may be visible after surgery, which may result in a less satisfactory outcome compared to protruding eyes.
Can the eyes re-adhere after epicanthoplasty?
Yes, depending on the surgical method, the eyes may feel like they are re-adhering. Methods that directly fix to the periosteum have a lower chance of reverting, but non-fixed surgeries that only fix to soft tissue, while recovering quickly, have a relatively higher possibility of re-adhesion.
Is it possible to undergo revision surgery for eyes that have been excessively opened?
Yes, it is possible through revision surgery. It is performed by pulling the excessively opened part and fixing it to the desired position. However, it is a difficult surgery as it may require drilling holes in the bone for firm fixation to overcome the pulling force of scar tissue.
How does Mango Epicanthoplasty differ from regular lateral canthoplasty and lower canthoplasty?
It differs in that it lowers the bottom part together, preventing an unnatural horizontal shape. While regular lateral canthoplasty or just lateral and lower canthoplasty can make the bottom of the eye flat like a pickled radish, Mango Epicanthoplasty creates a streamlined shape through lower canthoplasty, also reducing the chance of re-adhesion.
